Hot Winter Fishing

Report Date: January 31, 2009

January '09

Fishing in lower Tampa Bay and the St. Petersburg/St. Pete Beach area has been stellar this month. Most charters have produced multiple limits (4 per person) of Seatrout to 20'' with many nice ones caught and released. Most were caught on soft plastic jerkbaits on light jigheads but one customer fly fished them and did well with one fish about 21''.

Sheepshead fishing has been off the chain. Using green mussels for bait, every trip this month has produced great numbers of 2-4 pounders with a few weighing 5 or 6 and many more lost and released. You can expect more of the same in February and the Sheepy bite should get even better as the spawn gets closer. They are sooo tasty, I eat'em all winter.

Well that's about it till next month. Try and keep your rods bent and your hands warm.
Thanks for lookin',
Capt. Tim
